Let Freedom Ring

“I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.”

Abraham Lincoln

Today is one of my favorite days of the year. I truly love the 4th of July and all it brings. A holiday without stress that is full of friends, family, and summer fun. It is Independence Day and it usually feels that way. We feel free to simply be.

For years we lived across the street from an amazing park that thousands of people would descend upon each 4th of July for their incredible firework show. Our home was up on a slight hill above the park and we had a front row seat to the fireworks. Each year we would have a crazy fun 4th of July open house with people coming and going…it was just the best.

When I think about what made our 4th so special, it was our community. People coming together to celebrate. Community is what built our country. People coming together to work hard to create a place that is free. I write about incredible communities each week that are created by individuals coming together for a purpose greater than themselves….our country was founded the exact same way.

This year, my dream for our country is that we can all create a movement of service towards one another. I dream that we can all come together in community, regardless of our politics, for the country we love….something greater than ourselves.

Just as Abraham Lincoln said, “I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.”

Happy President’s Day!

“I do the very best I know how-the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing so until the end.”

Presidents day rushmore

I hope that today finds you celebrating our great nation, our freedom and forefathers with a day off of work. Reading through the many quotes by the people who made our country great was a fun and inspiring exercise. I think all of the Presidents that we celebrate and honor today did their very best. At the end, isn’t that all that really matters?

Simply doing your very best.

Charity Matters Quotes: The resolution

“Always bear in mind, that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.”

Abraham Lincoln

happy new year

This new year, I feel as if I am slowly coming out of my cocoon. I am not wildly embracing the New Year, but rather slowly crawling into it. I am cautiously making sure that 2015 has passed and am excited about the new possibilities ahead, including our new cocoon.

So, as I chew on both my professional and personal goals for the year ahead, I am already enjoying the slower pace at which they will arrive. Not rushed, but rather contemplated and thoughtful.

A good start to ensuring that those resolutions are set up for success.

God Bless America and Happy 4th of July!

Fourth of July or Memorial Day picnic

Its hard to believe that the 4th of July is tomorrow, truly one of my favorite holidays. The 4th of July is a time of fun, family and fireworks and it simply doesn’t get better than that in my book.

So whether you are staying in town for a barbecue and a parade, heading to the lake or the beach, have a wonderful and safe 4th of July.

We are blessed to live in this great country and to be able to celebrate our freedom.

God Bless America.

Charity Matters Quote

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

Abraham Lincoln

Young@Heart

This week will mark another year passing, and that is a good thing.

The passing of time brings perspective, wisdom and more importantly gratitude.

The gratitude in turn, brings joy.

The joy fuels the need to serve others and make a difference.

Making a difference fuels the soul.

In light of the Boston Marathon on monday and my talk with Carolyn Blashek from Operation Gratitude, on Wednesday, I couldn’t help feel patriotic this week. Proud of my country, all of Boston and always our American soldiers. Gratitude and pride are a great way to begin the weekend.

So remember to say thank you to our military and to make your country proud of you for all you do to make our world better. We are better because you are in it.

Happy Presidents Day!

In honor of Presidents Day, I thought a quote from Abraham Lincoln would be a fitting tribute.

When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That’s my religion.

Even Abe knew Charity Matters.
